ABOUT US

Manchester Gambia Supported Network (MGSN) started as Gambia Support Network which was founded in 2014 by like-minded Gambians living in Greater Manchester. It was later to become an all-inclusive organisation and a registered Charity called Manchester Gambia Support Network. The founders identified the need to have a well-functioning organisation that will be not-for-profit and humanitarian in nature. It will mobilise and harness resources in human, financial and material for the collective benefit of residents in Greater Manchester and beyond. This belief was built on the principles of networking, inclusion, collaboration, community and social engagement. The MGSN belief and philosophy were confirmed by recent surveys conducted by various organisations on the city and the outbreak of Covid-19.

According to Greater Manchester Poverty Action, Greater Manchester is inhabited by approximately 3 million people. Despite taking pride in its varied, bustling and lively city county, it is estimated that over 600,000 residents are experiencing poverty. This explains the fact that a considerable number of people are struggling with their daily lives including food provisions. It is also a known fact that Greater Manchester is one area in the UK that has a prevalence of deprived neighbourhoods as a result of poverty and economic inequality. This amount to widely varying food, health, education and economic conditions for the residents. When Covid-19 broke, the conditions of people with low income earning and those on benefits worsened. It was out of these conditions, Manchester Gambia Support Network was founded.
